For four decades, the Brazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery (BJCVS) has fulfilled its mission of disseminating scientific knowledge and strengthening the field of cardiovascular surgery in Brazil and around the world. Since its founding in 1986, BJCVS has become the leading specialty journal in Latin America, publishing original articles, reviews, brief communications, editorials, and multimedia content that reflect advances in clinical practice and scientific research.

With an impact factor of 1.2 and indexing in the major international databases such as PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, SciELO and Web of Science, the BJCVS ensures wide visibility and global recognition for Brazilian scientific output.

More than disseminating science, the BJCVS extends its impact beyond academia, contributing directly to the development of global public health policies. In April 2025, the Overton index identified more than 30 citations of BJCVS articles in official health policy documents, produced by leading institutions such as NICE (UK), PubMed Central/ACC-AHA (USA), AHRQ (USA), the Ministry of Health of Turkey, the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and HIQA (Ireland).

These citations address topics of great relevance, including cardiac surgery, thrombocytopenia, TAVI, aortic dissection and aneurysm, and perioperative risk. This demonstrates that the scientific output published in the BJCVS directly influences medical practice and public health decisions in several countries.

Throughout its history, the BJCVS has embraced the evolution of open science, adopting modern editorial policies that reinforce transparency, collaboration, and scientific responsibility. Its trajectory is defined by a commitment to editorial quality, methodological rigor, and continuous innovation.

Brazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery – 40 years of science, innovation, and impact

40 years of a lot of history and achievements

The year 2026 marks a historic moment for the scientific community: the BJCVS celebrates 40 years of a trajectory defined by excellence, innovation, and contributions to the advancement of cardiovascular surgery. To celebrate this milestone, we are honored to announce a special symposium, an event of great relevance and significance for cardiovascular surgeons and the entire Heart Team.

With a limited capacity of 300 participants, this symposium will be more than a meeting, it will be an in-depth and exclusive immersion. It will bring professionals together in a unique environment for knowledge exchange, debate on the latest innovations, and discussion on the future challenges facing the profession.

This is the moment to celebrate the legacy built over four decades. It is also an opportunity to honor the work of great professionals who have contributed (and continue to contribute) to the BJCVS and to chart the paths that will shape our future.
